Many men do not know that they are putting themselves at great risk each time they begin to pleasure themselves. Guys, read up what over masturbation can do to your p*nis.

Over stimulation of the penis can lead to persistent softness of an erection, while the disappearance of a morning erection can signify a hormonal imbalance. Weak erections can vary, from poor blood circulation to anxiety issues, but for men who over masturbate, the weakness can occur because of a hormonal imbalance.

Hormonal Reserve
Think of sex as a battery. The more you use it, the faster you lose it. An erection occurs because of a healthy dosage of hormones and neurotransmitters. The urge for sex starts with testosterone. But men who ejaculate often lose testosterone faster than their bodies can replenish it. With little testosterone, erections become weaker.

Meanwhile, dopamine must be released to stimulate the penis, while acetylcholine must be present to keep the “excitement” level high. Nitric oxide, a signaling chemical, must also appear in order to provide the proper signaling between the brain and the penis for a healthy erection. Over masturbation depletes all of these neurochemicals.

Lowered dopamine requires more stimulation to stay “hard”, while decreased acetylcholine levels ruin the flow of blood to maintain an erection. Depleted nitric oxide levels lead to a decrease in communication between the brain and penis.

Regaining the Proper Hormones
For hormones to return to their normal state, men must refrain from masturbating as often. The individual who has grown addicted to the activity may have trouble quitting. Still, an individual should aim to quit gradually. Next, taking hormonal supplements can help stabilize testosterone and neurotransmitter production for a healthy erection.

If you suffer from weak erections, take Botanical Solutions for Erectile Dysfunction to help stabilize your production of nitric oxide and to increase the elasticity of blood vessels for improved erection quality.

Dear Girls, a Contaminated/Polluted Destiny Attracts Filth and Evil Men!

By Odinaka

Do you know that much as likes attract and birds of same feather flock together, like destinies also magnetise each other in the spirit realm? This interesting article directed at Nigerian ladies is a must read.
Illustrative photo - beautiful Nigerian ladies

My darling, precious, glorious, dignified, world-famous and heavenly celebrated Nigerian sisters,

Do you know that much as likes attract and birds of same feather flock together, like destinies also magnetise each other in the spirit realm? Perhaps, your pastor hasn’t told you that or doesn’t even know. This is a very serious matter. And another reason for ending up with the wrong partner in marriage which further causes a wrecking of one’s destiny.

When I tell you the best thing to spend your teen years doing asides concentrating on your academics is to build a solid spiritual foundation, I know what I am talking about. Your parents may be pastors or church elders, in fact holier than Job but you never can tell the evil strong-hold in your foundation that’s programmed to stop your destiny or wreak havoc in your life because you are naturally a star.

Now, can you imagine when your destiny has gathered so much filth and contamination as a result of engaging in ungodly sex with someone who has been with multiple partners? The result is that it firmly gets you into trouble and like I earlier mentioned, you become bombarded by the multiple yokes and various, even iron-like curses in the lives of people you would never meet in your life-time.

How can God give us the opportunity to enjoy the best things of life then we destroy our chances because we are foolishly in love or because the entire world is doing same? I repeat, because your friends are engaging in it and appear to be having a ball doesn’t mean you can get away with it.

We all have different destinies that carry diverse weight and requirements for manifestation in the spirit realm and in the physical. Do you know the type of destiny you have and what it requires to manifest? I doubt! Do you know the type of star you have? I doubt your parents even know.

Girls…girls…girls, a contaminated/polluted destiny or a destiny under attack opens up your life to demonic invasion, repels goodness and attracts evil men. And today the world is full of wolves who come to you in sheep’s clothing- men who have been inhabited by the devil and have become principalities programmed by all the filth your life has gathered to further destroy you.

Do you want these evil men to spoil your fine girl or your beautiful dreams? It doesn’t matter that all the G.O.’s in the world approve of him as your life partner. You attract what you inhabit, period! This is not to say they don’t go after innocent and clean girls but the fact is that a dirty vessel attracts nothing but filth and evil. Because your pastor doesn’t talk about it or tell you deep issues about sexual intercourse doesn’t mean it doesn’t have dire consequences.

The world is waiting for your star to shine. God has deposited too much in you to be wasted. The first 25 years of your life is what would determine how your life would eventually go- its failure or success. I beg you in God’s name, there’s nothing as good as being a clean vessel and getting God on your side and the time is now, now, now! You never know what evil is programmed to stop your beautiful life in future but if you are careful now, you can avoid the pitfalls.

There are too many women out there today, in fact the most beautiful women who have never known happiness for the better part of their lives because their lives came under the whims and caprices of the devil. Now, they are so confused such that their children whose destinies are designed to rule the world are practically ruined!

Please ponder on this and share with as many girls. May the light of God blaze on your heart and open up your understanding in Jesus mighty name. AMEN!

Controversy as 13 Inmates Escape in Kogi Prison Break

By Odinaka  - tori.ng

Reports say a prison break has occurred at the Koton Karfe Medium Security Prison in Kogi State at about 7.10am on Saturday.
Thirteen inmates of the Kogi/Koton Karfe Prison broke out of the facility in the wee hours of Saturday.

The incident occurred at the newly built medium prison along Opareke Road in Koton Karfe Town. The medium prison was commissioned last year by the former Minister of Interior, Mr Abba Moro.

Though there was no confirmation yet from the Prison authority, a competent source in the area confirmed that the inmates took advantage of some lapses by some prison warders on duty, pulled down the prison wall and escaped.

It was further learnt that the inmates easily escaped without any resistance from the prison officers on duty.
Further more, NTA News Line reported that 6 out 13 escapees were recaptured and taken back to the prison and a committee was set to submit a report concerning what led to the successful jail break

White Lecturer Who Turned Me Down, Now Paying to Watch Me Perform - Nigerian Graduate Reveals

By Odinaka - tori.ng

The story of a Nigerian student who just graduated from a University in the United Kingdom, is making rounds online after she shared a story of how her white lecturer who turned her down, was now paying money to watch her perform.
According to Independent, Nigerian Bristol University graduate, Eno Mfon, has became a viral sensation after revealing that a white lecturer that once told her there was 'no space' for black writers on her course, came to watch her stage play titled, 'Check the Label' - which explores the 'damaging effects of Eurocentric beauty standards' and the distance this creates between women of colour.

Mfon was quoted as saying: “During my 2nd year, I decided to confront the experience of colourism and skin bleaching which permeates the black and Asian community. When I was growing up, I noticed visible changes in some of the women around me.

"There were little signs that revealed the use of lightening cream. I knew how to spot the signs, but I never understood the wider implications of this; it was a taboo subject that no one dared to address. Through 'Check the Label', I attempted to say what many young black girls, including myself, once struggled to articulate.”

After her post on social media went viral, Head of Theatre at the university, Dr Catherine Hindson, apologized to her about her negative experience and revealed that the university has made a strong commitment to increasing diversity and broadened out the curriculum significantly.

Guys, Take Note! These are 5 Ways To Touch Your Woman And Turn Her On Immediately (Explicit Content)

By Samuel  - tori.ng

If you have been wondering why you have not been able to get your woman aroused in recent time, then these tips are for you.

Last weekend my boyfriend and I were hanging out, working our way through a six-pack of lager, when he started to clean the inside of a vintage amplifier. As I watched him polish the delicate glass tubes, tighten minuscule screws, and run his fingertips among a network of wires, I felt a familiar weakness between my legs.
Those hands. The mere sight of them working touched off deep memories: in backseats, on blankets, in dark hallways, the first thrilling times with a guy. Ever since I was old enough to grope and be groped, a man’s hands have been an exhilarating turn-on.
Lots of women feel the same. The sad thing is, we don’t get this nostalgic (and reliable) treatment nearly as often as we’d like. Men over the age of 18 tend to dip their fingers for two reasons: 1) as a brief transition between dry humping and intercourse, and 2) to find out if our juices are flowing.
We want more. We want you to explore like an awestruck teenager again, to rub, tickle, circle, and probe in dozens of ways, under a variety of circumstances. Allow me to, um, take you by the hand.
1. The Car
Strategy: A 30-mile tease, then 360s
Why it works: It’s slow and semipublic.
Special equipment: Automatic transmission
A road trip is worth the price of gas if I can lie back and soak up the attentions of the driver’s right hand. You should focus on the road.
We have nothing but time, so take things slowly—this is what we love. For the length of an average song (perhaps “Slow Hand” by the Pointer Sisters?), glide your hand languidly up and down her thigh, coming closer to her crotch with every upstroke. Then slide your hand up and let your palm rest on her pubic mound. Keep it there. Take in the scenery. Look at that barn. Mm-hmm. Nice.
True, you have no leverage. This limits you to gentle touching. We love gentle touching. A featherlight stroke over our pants or panties makes our nerves stand on end. Resist the urge to delve deeper.
Instead, alternate between lightly stroking her entire crotch and circling her clitoral area with a fingertip. (Okay, it’s about time for her pants to come off. And maybe, uh, park—over there, now.) Once she’s naked from the waist down, lightly slide a wet finger around her clitoris, then stroke just above it (her clitoral shaft runs under there) with a side-to-side motion. If it seems like she might climax, just keep it up. You’ll get your turn.

2. A Dark Lounge
Strategy: A digital lap dance
Why it works: The music, the beer, the risk.
Special equipment: A skirt
A shadowy corner of a swank lounge is the grown-up version of a basement during high school. Here’s one place where making out in public is condoned, if not encouraged. Kiss her neck, nibble her ear, and engage in deep, wet kisses while stroking her lower back and sliding your hands through her hair.
Invite her to sit on your lap sideways with her legs crossed. Slide your hand under her butt and between her thighs. It’s a tight fit, but apply slow, pulsing pressure to her clitoris or just above to get the blood flowing. Achieving orgasm is a long shot, but being touched intimately in a crowded bar, with music blasting, a cold beer in hand, and your warm breath on the back of her neck, is a thrill that lasts—and will continue at home.

3. The Shower
Strategy: All-body slipperiness
Why it works: She sets the pace.
Special equipment: Shampoo, soap
The pillars of female orgasm are rhythm and pressure, which is why we love to climb on top and sort of take over. One of the best ways to replicate that is only possible in the shower, with you providing a sudsy forearm as a hobbyhorse for her to ride on.
But hold on, cowboy. Just because you’re both already hot and wet doesn’t mean she doesn’t need foreplay. I’m sure I’m not the first woman to tell you how sexy it feels to have our hair washed by a man. Massaging shampoo into her scalp will release tension and allow her to focus on her body instead of her to-do list. After rinsing out her tresses, suds her up from head to toe. A hypoallergenic soap like Dove won’t irritate her sensitive nooks and crannies. Spend ample time on her shoulders, breasts, bottom, and thighs.
Rub her pubic mound in a circular motion with one hand and massage her bottom with the other. When her head tilts with pleasure, reach between her legs and slide your fore-arm back and forth over her entire vulva. Encourage her to move against your arm. Ultimately, she’ll take over, setting the pace and pressure she needs to reach her peak.
4. An Uncrowded Plane
Strategy: The stealth reach-around
Why it works: It’s how she does it.
Special equipment: A blanket
Please forget the mile-high club. A jet’s bathroom is dirty, cramped, and smelly. Much sexier—and easier to talk her into—is the high-altitude hand job, assuming you have a row to yourself. Raise the armrest and drape the blanket over the two of you. Wait for the lights to go down and the movie to start.
Have her lean back into the crook of your shoulder. She’ll “read a magazine” as you slip your arm around her waist, under the blanket and between her legs. An over-the-clothes rub is a vintage sensation that’s worked since she became aware of boys.
Rest your fingertips on top of her pubic mound. Exert medium pressure with all four fingers, alternately rubbing up and down over her clitoris and massaging with slow, circular motions. Many women masturbate in exactly this fashion, so there’s a good chance she’ll achieve maximum altitude.
5. The Couch
Strategy: Precision petting and probing
Why it works: Nothing feels better.
Special equipment: Your tongue
As you watch TV, give her a foot rub that gradually becomes a calf rub and then a thigh massage. By the time your hand is between her legs, the television should be off and your lips should be on hers. Raise her shirt and kiss her stomach, then head south while working her jeans off her hips. Softly kiss her pubic mound until your tongue reaches her clitoris. That’s right, your hands get help here—don’t argue: A recent Australian study found that an oral-manual combination is the surest path to her orgasm. Slip a pillow under her butt and ease her thighs to either side.
Many women prefer to be stimulated on one side of—or just above—the clitoris. Rub gently in different spots, asking what she likes best. Insert the index finger of your other hand just inside her vagina and leave it there as you continue to attend to her clitoris. Alternate between oral sex and this two-handed technique until you find out which move makes her crazier than any other.

Scientists Explain Why Men Get 'Morning Wood' and Feel So Horny in the Morning

Posted by Thandiubani  - tori.ng

Scientists have finally explained the much needed reason why some men often get erection in the morning and why.
It’s an amusing, albeit often highly inconvenient, phenomenon that half of the world’s population has to deal with on a regular basis. So what's the science story behind that morning glory? Let’s find out.
Morning glories, or nocturnal penile tumescence (NPT) as they are correctly called, are spontaneous erections that occur during sleep or while waking up. All blokes without erectile dysfunction are graced with them and they normally occur around three to five times during sleep.
NPT actually starts in utero, or in the womb (seriously), and continues throughout life. If it’s any consolation, men aren’t completely alone—women also get clitoral erections and vaginal engorgement during sleep, and various nonhuman mammals also get NPT.
While a few different theories have been proposed over the years to explain NPT, what causes it still remains uncertain. NPT, just like clitoral erections, is associated with REM (rapid eye movement) sleep. One idea is that during REM sleep, noradrenergic cells (neurons that release the neurotransmitter noradrenaline [norepinephrine]) located in an area of the pons (part of the brainstem) called the locus coeruleus are switched off. It is thought that these cells are associated with the inhibitory tone of the penis; therefore, when their activity is reduced during REM sleep, testosterone-dependent excitatory tones can be expressed which result in an erection.

It’s also been suggested that NPT is triggered by the release of nitric oxide (NO). NO is released by cells that line the inside of blood vessels which then diffuses into smooth muscle, causing it to relax. This also causes blood vessels to dilate, hence increasing blood flow to the penis and voila, an erection. It’s thought that increased activity of part of the pons during REM sleep triggers a cascade of events that ultimately lead to NO release by nerve fibers. This is also regulated by androgens such as testosterone.
So we have discussed how, but what about why? One idea is that these sleep exercises actually contribute to the health of your junk. Erections cause the erectile tissue (corpora cavernosa) to swell, which in turn oxygenates the tissue. This oxygenation maintains its viability and helps to prevent cavernous fibrosis, a condition that can ultimately lead to erectile dysfunction.
Another interesting theory is that pitching a tent prevents men from wetting the bed. There are two main types of erections: psychogenic and reflex. The former starts with stimulating thoughts or images which trigger an erection via nerve signals. The latter is an involuntary process that occurs without sexy thoughts and it's believed that a full bladder can trigger them. The nerves controlling these reflex erections are located in the sacral nerves of the spinal cord which are also stimulated by a full bladder. Since it’s difficult to pee with a stiffy, it’s thought that NPT may prevent accidental nocturnal enuresis (bed wetting). While this may sound plausible, it seems unlikely because the body has lots of other methods to prevent you from wetting the bed. Furthermore, it doesn't really make sense given that nocturnal enuresis also affects women.
It seems the most likely explanation is that all of that nighttime mischief is really helping to keep your crown jewels healthy. Be pleased he’s looking out for you.

Career Opportunities At The Economic Community Of West African States (ECOWAS)

Date Posted: 29/Jul/2016 Deadline: 01/Sep/2016 Specialization Consulting Job Vacancies In Nigeria Industry Government / Defence Job Type Full Time Qualification HND, Bachelor's Degree, PGD / Master's Degree Location Abuja The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is a regional grouping with 15 Member States in West Africa (three landlocked and one island) with a population of about 300million and an annual economic growth rate of around 6%. The ECOWAS Commission is one of the eight Regional Economic Communities supporting the African Union to coordinate the implementation of continental and regional integration and development programmes in the West African region. Job Title: Consultant for the Development and Increase Energy Awareness in the ECOWAS Region Job Summary West Africa boasts huge energy resources that are sometimes poorly distributed and generally under exploited. Despite the regions potential, the population’s access to energy services remains a major concern. Over 180 million people have problems of access to electricity, representing about 60% of the population. The level of access to modern energy sources for cooking remains well below 5% throughout the region, especially in rural area. Only 45% of the energy demand is met while the per capita energy consumption which is 150 kWh per capita is the lowest in the world. These indicators reflect the energy precariousness of our region. Aware of these difficulties and huge regional disparities, the ECOWAS Commission quickly realised the need to make access to sustainable and affordable energy supply a fundamental priority of the Community. This approach has led ECOWAS together with Member States to focus on joint efforts with a view to systematically reducing the energy gap in the region through the creation of a regional energy market. It is within this context that ECOWAS is seeking to engage a consultant to develop and Increase Energy Awareness in the ECOWAS Region. Job Title: Consultant for the Development of Regional Strategy to Promote the Use of LPG as Cooking Energy in the ECOWAS Region Job Summary For decades, ECOWAS Member States have been facing major challenges to ensure the well-being and economic development of their population, particularly increasing access to modern energy services. Despite its enormous potential in terms of natural resources on the continent, the region's energy consumption level is among the lowest in the world (1.7% of the world's commercial energy use). The population's access to electricity is only 30% throughout the region. This reflects a very low and inadequate energy consumption level to promote the population's access to basic social services and reduce poverty particularly in rural areas. The region's overall energy assessment is dominated by biomass, which accounts for 80% of total energy consumption. Biomass is mainly used as household energy for cooking and heating in rural, pen-urban and urban areas. Indeed, the low purchasing power of the population does not allow them to have access to modern cooking energy under current market conditions. The immediate impacts of this situation are deteriorating health of populations and environmental degradation. Access to LPG remains limited and well below 5% throughout the region with an offer only concentrated at over 80% in major cities. These indicators show that despite the encouraging results achieved so far, efforts should continue to be deployed at national and regional levels to make LPG the preferred domestic energy of the population in the ECOWAS region. The regional stakeholders consequently made a recommendation for the implementation of a regional butanization strategy to truly promote the use of LPG throughout the region. It is within this context that ECOWAS is seeking to engage a consultant for the development of a regional strategy to promote the use of LPG as cooking energy in the ECOWAS region. The study's overall goal is to develop a regional strategy to popularize the used of LPG as modern cooking fuel in the ECOWAS region in order to contribute to enhancing people's access to modern energy services including modern cooking fuels. Duties and Responsibilities of the Consultants The Consultant will be expected to provide the following services: Collect data and present a detailed analysis on the current status of LPG use in the ECOWAS region. The analysis shall review all the value chain of LPG. Identify the achievements and the main challenges and barriers to LPG promotion in the region particularly institutional, regulatory, organizational and infrastructural issues; Identify and assess the major national and regional programmes, projects, actions, initiatives or mechanisms implemented under LPG promotion as household cooking energy in the region; Develop a regional LPG popularization strategy in the ECOWAS based on an objective vision and relevant strategic objectives. This strategy will need to focus on domestic access to LPG and cooking equipment’s but also support from the private sector for the development of the supply and distribution networks. Recommend measures aimed at improving complementarity between the national and regional programmes to enhance the overall political efficiency (programme in environment, ECREEE programme etc.); Identify the region’s priorities and develop an action plan for progressive and inclusive implementation of the LPG popularization strategy in the ECOWAS region. The study will be carried out by one (1) consultant, responding to the profile below: One (1) specialist in hydrocarbons, hold a Petroleum Engineering Degree or equivalent (Energy, Chemist, Chemist or Petrochemist Engineer etc.), with proven experience in defining strategy and policy in the hydrocarbons sector and in particular the downstream sector. He must have knowledge required in the promotion and development of LPG especially in West African sub-region and justifying a proven track record for similar studies (minimum of 2 projects) in the ECOWAS region. He must also have ten (10) years working experience gained in an international or national oil firm, a consultancy firm or a government. Must be fluent in English or French and have good knowledge of the other language (reading, writing and speaking). The ECOWAS Commission now invites eligible Consultants (Individual) to indicate their interests in providing these services. Banana Tea For Deep Sleep

Banana Tea For Deep Sleep We’ve all had those restless nights of tossing and turning, staring at the ceiling, unable to get more than couple hours of shuteye. Irregular sleeping patterns or even insomnia can stem from several different things like depression, stress and anxiety. Certain medications can also cause insomnia.
Pain medications, antihistamines, and heart and blood pressure medicines are among the many that contribute to sleep loss. Some medications may actually make you drowsy at first, but they can also trigger frequent bathroom trips or anxiety which can further disturb your rest. Banana Tea For Deep Sleep This organic, banana-infused sleep remedy works wonders — and it tastes great too. How does it work? Bananas, especially the peels, are loaded with potassium and magnesium. While magnesium helps prevent sleep disturbances, both magnesium and potassium work together to help relax muscles. In fact, magnesium is the most powerful relaxation mineral known to man! Please note that bananas which are not organic, are loaded with harmful pesticides, and since we encourage you to eat the boiled peel, it must be chemical-free. This tea takes less than 10 minutes to prepare and can be enjoyed every night before bed. Ingredients 1 organic banana 1 small pot of water a dash of cinnamon (optional) All you need to do is cut off both ends of the banana and place it, peel and all, into boiling water. If you’re worried about being wasteful, you’ve clearly never had a boiled banana before! After the banana has been boiled, sprinkle some cinnamon over it. Eating the warm, gooey fruit and its peel along with the tea will increase its soothing effects, and it makes a yummy dessert! Why You Should Avoid Sleeping Pills Out of despair, many of us resort to sleeping pills and with almost half of the American population suffering from insomnia or poor sleep, it’s no wonder. But here’s the thing: sleeping pills cannot help you long-term. They provide a short-term fix. The majority of sleeping pills are a specific type of drug that induces and maintains sleep. They’re classified as something called sedative hypnotics. Among other sedative hypnotic drugs are benzodiazepines and barbiturates. Benzodiazepines, like Xanax and Valium, can be addictive and are used to treat anxiety disorders by increasing drowsiness. Barbiturates depress the central nervous system are used as anesthetics and sedatives. As with all drugs, there’s a list of side effects that accompany sleeping pills. Aside from the likeliness of them being habit-forming, they can cause the following: Constipation Dizziness Difficulty focusing and remembering Stomach pain Weakness Uncontrollable shaking Parasomnias (Doing things without realizing it… Scary!) Sleeping pills also cause your breathing rhythm to slow down and significantly lighten. This means that if you’re already suffering from lung diseases like COPD or even asthma, these meds can be dangerous and even fatal. This Is How Sleep Deprivation Affects Your Body When your body doesn’t get enough rest, it suffers. Cognitive function your long and short-term memory is seriously affected. Processing even the simplest things seems challenging and your emotional responses to things become totally skewed. The scariest part is that sleep deprivationhas been linked to serious health problems including obesity, diabetes and cancer. Source: http://36trends.com

Lesbian mums raise their 5 year old son as a girl

5-year-old Sir Washington is being raised by two women who are lesbian partners and they are raising him as a girl.
His mum, Tangela Washington shares photos and videos of Sir on her Facebook page showing him dress in female clothes and behaving like a female. He even makes his own clothes. Tangela (right) shared the photos on Facebook and wrote; “Our son, Sir, is 5 yrs old. He has been particular about what he wears and how it fits since he was 2 and a half. He began to show interest in designing clothes and then asking us to show him how to sew at 4.

See What the way you sleep In the Night says About your life

Most of our communication is none verbal right? This goes to say that even while we are asleep, we give off messages about ourselves that we are not even aware of. According to a recent study, your sleeping position tells a lot about your personality traits. Here are six basic sleeping positions and what they say about you:
The Fetal position: This is the most common sleeping style obtainable. According to research, 41% of people take this sleeping style. This style involves sleeping in a fetal position, curled up on your side with your knees drawn up to your mid region. Sleepers in this category tend to be sensitive and shy though they present a tough exterior to the world. The Solider position: This position involves sleeping on your back with your arms flat on your back. This is an indication of a reserved personality but with high standards and principles. The Starfish Position: Lying on your back with arms outstretched indicates an open personality. This individual prefers to be in the background but they enjoy having a good time with friends. The Freefall Position: The face down position as it is popularly known involves lying flat on one’s stomach with arms under head . This personality trait shows a gregarious person who might be extremely sensitive and shy of criticism. The Log Position: Stretched out on one’s side with arms on the side shows a social, easy going personality. The Yearner: This position also lying on the side with arms stretched outward. This is slightly similar to the log position but different in personality traits from the log position. The yearner is a highly suspicious and critical person. Source: http://36trends.com

Restructuring Nigeria is inevitable — Atiku

By Omeiza Ajayi Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has restated his call for the restructuring of the country, saying whether Nigeria likes it or not, restructuring has become inevitable. He said as long as the Federal Government continues to lord it over states in all matters, there would continue to be agitation for restructuring. The ex-vice president spoke at the late Gen.Usman Katsina Memorial Conference, held at the Murtala Square, Kaduna. The theme of the conference was, ‘The Challenges of National Integration and Survival of Democracy in Nigeria’.
His words: “I suggest we resolve today to support calls for the restructuring of the Nigerian federation in order to strengthen its unity and stabilize its democracy. I believe that restructuring will eventually happen whether we like or support it or not. The question is whether it will happen around a conference table, in a direction influenced by us and whether we will be an equal partner in the process. Or will it happen in a more unpredictable arena and in a manner over which we have little influence? It should be at a table and we need to be at that table. A nation is an organism; it grows, it evolves, it changes, it adapts. And like other organisms if it does not adapt, it dies. “Those who argue that restructuring of the polity won’t be necessary once we diversify the economy are mistaken. As long as the federal government remains overly dominant relative to the federating states, it will continue to matter which section of the country ‘captures’ federal power with its attendant instability. And as long as the federal government keeps the bulk of oil revenues for itself, its desire and will to provide the leadership needed to diversify the economy will continue to be limited”. On the clamour for resource control, Atiku described the call as belonging to the past. The former number two citizen went on: “The fight in this country over ‘resource control’, while it may still have significance today, is really a fight that belongs to the past. Even a discovery of large quantities of oil and gas in the north today can only bring temporary relief but cannot reverse the fundamental shifts in the world’s energy trajectory.
In any case how are we to improve this region and hold it (and the country) together in the time lag between such a discovery and actual production and revenue in-flow? I humbly submit that we need to move on, like the rest of the world. “I am not trying to be a messenger of doom but to alert us to the serious challenges ahead if we do not take immediate corrective actions both in our economics and our politics. For this region particularly the following measures will be helpful for our economic, social and political recovery and development. Interestingly they are also what Nigeria needs”. He said Nigeria has reached the peak of the oil economy, saying even for those who think nothing of diversifying to alternative revenue sources, the ‘jamboree’ is clearly over. Atiku’s words: “Oil prices may still go up in real terms in the future, but the long-term trend will be downwards, and here are the reasons: New technologies of oil and gas extraction, especially hydraulic fracturing (also known as fracking) have helped in pumping out more oil than the world needs. In fact, those technologies have helped to push the US towards becoming the world’s top oil producer. Is it any wonder that US import of Nigerian oil has declined to almost zero? “Growing investments in alternative energy sources as well as the declining costs per unit of these alternatives have not only added significantly to the world’s energy mix but also appear to have set the world on an irreversible move towards reliance on non-fossil and renewable energy. “Let me give you just a few examples. In 2004 the world generated only 48 gigawatts of electricity from wind power, but by 2014 wind power accounted for 318 gigawatts. In 2004 only 2.6 gigawatts of power were generated worldwide from solar photovoltaic (PV), but by 2014, 139 gigawatts were being generated, and this excludes an additional 326 gigawatts thermal solar water heating capacity. Also total annual biofuel production rose from 30.9 billion litres in 2004 to 113.5 litres by 2014. The same phenomenal increase is noticed in annual investments in renewable energy, from a mere $39.5 billion US in 2004 to $214.4 billion by 2014. In 2004 only 48 countries had policy targets regarding renewable energy but by 2014 the number had reached 144. As we speak here today cars using non-oil based energy either in full or in part are being produced for the mass market. And just last month the US, Canada and Mexico pledged to derived 50% of their energy from clean sources by 2025”, he adde. Source://www.vanguardngr.com

New ‘SIM Card Cloning’ Scam In Town – How to be Careful

A 72-year-old senior citizen was bewildered when she got SMSs that around Rs 11 lakhs had been withdrawn from her bank. A Mumbai resident and a former US consulate employee got the shock of her life when she found that con men had found out her credit card details and booked flight tickets worth 11 lakhs through her bank money! Check out the scam that affected many so far, and you might be next. How did this happen? Well, the fraudsters first cloned her SIM card and then telephoned her bank for credit card details by pretending to be her. Once they got the details, the job was done. But how can a SIM card be cloned?
SIM card cloning is a new kind of cyber crime that could leave you bankrupt. Hackers could find all your personal details and launder all your money.
Specialised software and a SIM card reader can copy all the information of a SIM card on another, blank one. It can also be done by sending over-the-air (OTA) commands to it through protected SMSes. Only professional hackers can clone a SIM by using high tech software. How to find out whether a SIM card has been cloned? Check your mobile bill. If you find a series of unknown numbers dialled from your phones then there’s something really fishy. Also, someone trying to reach you and getting a busy tone, even when you’re not on the phone, could be a sign that your SIM card getting cloned.
How should we prevent our SIM cards from getting cloned? Be very careful about whom you give your phone to. If you want to give your phone for mobile servicing, then make sure you give it to only authorised servicing centres and take out the SIM cards before submitting your phone. Do not pick up calls from numbers that flash ‘Unknown Number’ on your screen. Also avoid taking calls which begin with +92, +90 or +09. In case you pick up such calls, and if the person on the other end asks you to dial a number, hang up immediately, because this can be the hackers trying to copy your contact details. Try keeping a second number, that you don’t share with anybody, for bank work.

Why we have sex

By Yetunde Arebi Sex, since the history of man or human evolution has gone through several changes, even in terms of definition and form and the individuals engaging in it. Once upon a time, sex was thought to be primarily for reproductive reasons, then for the relief of sexual tension and later, for the sexual pleasure. Right from the explosive documentation of the Kama Sutra, various studies and experiences have been carried out by persons and institutions to unravel the mystery of human sexology and why, besides procreation, sex is important to mortal men and women.
From the researches of Alfred Kinsey who is regarded as the father of sexology in the 40s and 50s to Masters and Johnson’s famous researches on orgasms of the 60s and 70s, sex has become a subject of great interest to all. Now, a research conducted by psychologists Cindy Meston and David Buss on why women have sex which is published in the Archives of Sexual Behaviour, the duo in their new book of the same title, have listed 237 reasons why women have sex with their partners. Ranging from the mundane desires to experience physical pleasure; to the vengeful intentions of getting back at a cheating partner, the spiritual attempt to get closer to God, or the altruistic gesture of wanting a partner to feel good about themselves, Meston and Buss concluded that the motives for engaging in sexual intercourse may be larger in number than what most people think and psychologically complex in nature too. Some of the reasons listed are quite glaring and practiced across societies and persons at various times, regardless of their marital status too. In fact, marital sex as well as long term relationships tend to be more complex than those in newer or non-commitment relationships. Just as a married woman may have a legion of reasons for not wanting to have sex, she just might have another gazillion on why she must have sex. The most important and common reason being “duty sex”. Once married, it is assumed that providing sexual pleasure to her partner is a given. She must fulfill her own side of the bargain to keep the union. To some other women, it is the price for the status and benefits. In this case, it has nothing to do with her own sexual pleasures or preference and more about submission, ditto the man. Many women also believe that the more sex they have with their partners, the less chances he is likely to stray. Women assume that the more sex he gets with them, the less chances he is likely to think about sex outside the box, much less look for it.
While good communication channel and a strong sexual connection may have been identified as important keys to a good relationship, hardly has having sex with a partner on demand been known to keep a person from straying into the thighs of another individual. Some women also believe that sex and children are the perfect ways to keep their men. Women dubiously believe that the more children and responsibility they throw at their husbands, the less likely they are to walk away from them. So, where they have agreed on two children, these women, on their own volition, manipulate or “accidentally” go on to have more children. This hardly works in some cases. You can only keep a man down for as long as he wants to stay down. I intend to write more about this complex situation in subsequent editions. Let’s just go through some reasons I found quite interesting in this book which I have practical examples for: Pity sex: Women may sometimes give in to sex for this simple reason, after all, we are women with maternal instincts. Some of the women in the book confessed to have had sex with men just because they felt sorry for them. According to one, she had been dating a guy over two years and he had been pleading with her all through. One day, she said she took pity on him and agreed. However, he was out of the door as soon as he could pull his pants up. A similar scenario happened to one of the young girls I counsel. She’d been dating the guy for quite some time, and though she’d told him she was no virgin, she’d however decided to go celibate until she was married. The guy had gone on to systematically work on her emotions and soon, broke her down. She said the day she agreed to have sex with him, he had prostrated flat on his stomach, swearing heaven on earth. What kind of desperation is that? However, what happened after the act, almost robbed her of her education as she did not want to return to school. She said immediately it was over, he jumped up and punched the air with his fist, asking if that was all that she had to offer and that he’d had better lays. He went on to tell her that he had only been acting out a script and never loved her. In fact, he and a couple of guys already placed a bet on her and though she had tried, he had won eventually. To make matters worse, he had ordered her out of his room. She said she ran away from school and several days was even scared to pick her calls or check the social media as she feared that he had recorded their activities and might post it on the internet. Eventually, he had come to apologise but the damage had already been done. Sex for pity’s sake almost always turn out to leave a sour taste in the mouth as you can never be sure of the other person’s motives. Have sex because you want to and not because you feel pressured to, or are sorry for the guy. That way, should things go sour, you can hold your head up, look the a- – in the eye and say “f..k off, you fall me, I fall you, no big deal!” Marriage sex: This is very different from marital sex. This is simply sex to negotiate for marriage. Some ladies believe that having sex with a guy will provide them the opportunity to show the guys and convince them that they are good and suitable for each other. To add insult to injury, some of these ladies are prepared to play little housewife roles, they go over to the guy’s apartments for chores and even wash their dirty under wears and clothes. Some even cook with their own money to convince the guys that they can support the union financially too. My little sister gave me a gist about one of her friends who played house help for someone she called her fiancé for almost four years, refusing to heed everyone’s warning. As suspected, her generosity and selfless acts did not succeed at the negotiation table as the guy sprung the most unexpected surprise. He married the daughter of his neighbour and co-tenant, the little girl that had been calling his fiancée “aunty” and often came to the apartment to play with her when the guy was not around! My bet is that she had even run errands between the lovers and had benefited from the older lady’s generosity too. Eventually, they both betrayed her, her goodness did not help, neither her assumed sexual prowess. Trade by barter sex: Just as the phrase imply, this is when you use what you have to get what you want. The first thing that comes to mind here is prostitution, that age old trade of using the body for financial benefits. The activities of the prostitution ricampus-sex111ng are a multimillion dollar investment worldwide with tentacles in drugs, violent crimes, human trafficking and many other vices. Interestingly, the average prostitute in many climes no longer enjoys the liberty of dealing her wares as a one man (sorry, woman) enterprise or sole trader to any interested client today. To carry on business as usual, she needs protection and this she invests in with the proceeds from her business as well as sex. Again, a drug addict or junkie will exchange sex for drugs naturally and when caught in a tight corner, many women have been known to exchange sex for their freedom. Negotiation sex: If the above seem rather on the dark side, let’s bring it down to base. Many things have been written about the power of the female anatomy. I mean, bottom power! Many men, both high and lowly have been known to succumb to the aura of this potent natural endowment. Many women have perfected the art of using their gifts from mother nature to get what they want through intense manipulation and negotiation. Sex is thus used by women to curry favour, to get jobs, promotions, or even maintain status as the case might be. A friend once told me the trick she uses to get anything she wants from her boyfriend. According to her, he is one of those shy types who can hardly express his thoughts or views on issues, let alone approach women. So, he considers himself very lucky to have found her and perhaps cannot trade the opportunity of the occasional sex for anything. (not yet, at least). So, for her, most times, She engages in sex to get him to do stuff for her. Her crude method even involves stopping in the middle of the act to get him to agree to her demand. And the poor thing just crumbles like a pack of cards. Revenge sex: This is common with women who have been hurt and who want to get their pound of flesh. Often, a wife might cheat on her cheating husband just to get back at him and probably make him feel the way she felt. It could also be to get back at a partner who has neglected them. Again, she might have sex to reassure herself that she is still pretty and desirable by men after she’d been jilted by one, or to simply walk out of an existing relationship. Revenge sex may sometimes take a bizarre twist, depending on motive and individual. While working on my book, Youth, Sex and Wellbeing, I spoke with a lady who confessed to having slept with a boyfriend she was no longer interested in and infected him with a STI. According to her, she’d gone to visit on his insistence, thinking that she would seize the opportunity to inform him of her slight indisposition. But to her annoyance, she caught him escorting another girl off. And though she’d always known she was not his only partner, seeing him that day was just too much and she made up her mind to teach him a lesson. A couple of years back, a National Newspaper published the self confession of a university undergraduate who at the brink of death, afflicted with full blown AIDS, claimed she’d purposely passed on the HIV virus to over 400 men. Her grouse was not with these men but the man who’d given her the virus and she wanted to take her revenge out on the world. If the men thought she was an easy lay at the time, they definitely would have a change of heart after reading her confession! Cindy Meston and David Buss, aptly summarised the various motives in these words. “Every person brings their own individual history to any sexual situation. The reasons why they are having sex, the way they feel about the sex and the consequences of having sex are all very different across individuals no matter what gender they happen to be”. And that includes men too. Read more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/05/why-we-have-sex/

Sexuality, hypocrisy, and everything in-between (1)

By Douglas Anele The Dino Melaye versus Oluremi Tinubu confrontation in the House of Representatives, allegations of sexual misdemeanour levelled against three members of the House and reactions of Nigerians to these events have raised once again issues of sexuality, gender relations and the hypocritical holier-than-thou attitudes of people towards sex and gender relations in the society. Just like homoerotic relationships to which most Nigerians respond emotionally based on antiquated cultural and religious prejudices devoid of scientific credibility, sex and the justifiable disgust associated with men bullying or oppressing defenceless woman instinctively elicit negative reactions to the extent that rational discussion becomes extremely difficult.
Dino Thus, most times when a man and a woman insult and abuse one another, people, especially women, tend to put all the blame on the man without even considering the objective facts in the episode. Moreover, anytime a man is accused of sexual misconduct, there is unquestioned presumption that the man must be guilty, particularly if the accusation was levelled by a highly placed individual or by a woman. This widespread presumptive hasty attitude of people to blame and condemn without evidence lead to questions such as: is it reasonable to assume that in a hot verbal exchange like the one between Mr. Melaye and Mrs. Tinubu, the man must bear all the blame or a greater part of it? How should a reasonable person respondto accusation of sexual misconduct levelled against someone else particularly in the absence of corroborative evidence, irrespective of the gender or social status of the accuser? What is the rational attitude to human sexuality and relationship between the sexes? What are the practical steps that can be taken to inculcate in individuals the right orientation on sex and man-woman relationship? To answer these questions, let us begin by analysing the Melaye-Tinubuexchange of hot air on the floor of the Senate. Now, a very important point neglected by those who commented on that issue is the difficulty of ascertaining what actually happened. From media accounts of the altercation, it is unclear who triggered the confrontation and the exact insulting words Melaye and Mrs. Tinubu used against each other. The two senators blamed each other for their “unparliamentary” conduct, and virtually everyone that have spoken or written about it excoriated Melaye. It is instructive to note that even those present during the executive session of the Senate on Tuesday, July 12 when the quarrel took place cannot be trusted to give a completely objective account of what transpired that very day. Depending on antecedent circumstances and personal relationship with Melaye and Mrs. Tinubu, each of the senators who witnessed the drama would likely give a biased report of the incident. Therefore, unless the episode was captured in a video recording device that has not been tampered with, it is virtually impossible to know the exact truth. The best interpretation that can be distilled from media reports is that Melaye and Mrs. Tinubu verbally insulted and possibly threatened each other, which is unbecoming of senators of the federal republic of Nigeria. Now, because of his sullied reputation as an intemperate and arrogant person who has little respect for women, Melaye probably deserves the opprobrium heaped on him by supporters of Mrs. Tinubu. The widespread condemnation of the senator from Kogi state is not surprising, given that Mrs. Tinubu is the wife of one of the most influential politicians from the south west geopolitical zone and an APC stalwart, Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Bola Tinubu is the godfather of a sizeable number of politicians in Yorubaland. As a result, his acolytes and loyalists would viciously attack anyone who challenges Mrs. Tinubu or acts in a manner that questions Tinubu’s overbearing influence in Yoruba politics because such a challenge, if unchecked, would gradually corrode the power and mystique surrounding the godfather, Bola Tinubu. Meanwhile, since disciples tend to be more extremist and fanatic than their masters, Ayo Afolabi, national secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) south west, demanded that Melaye should publicly apologise to Mrs. Tinubu, the entire Tinubu family, womanhood, and to the APC in the zone. He even threatened that should Melaye fail to apologise, he would be banned from coming to the south west. This is sheer nonsense: it shows the ridiculous extent Nigerians can go to demean themselves just todemonstrate loyalty to their political godfathers and benefactors. The 1999 constitution guarantees Melaye and every Nigerian freedom of movement within the country. Only the courts and law enforcement agencies in carrying out their lawful duties can stop a Nigerian citizen from exercising his or her fundamental right in this regard. So, Melaye is right in disregarding Mr. Afolabi’s vituperations. Just because someone had a heated verbal exchange with the wife of a political bigwig does not permit fawning factotums to issue idle threats. The protest staged by some women in support of Mrs. Tinubu is merely an exercise in idleness and unseriousness. The average Nigerian woman is too busy struggling to make a living: she does not have time to engage in a frivolous gathering simply because the wife of a well-known politician quarrelled with a colleague. As I stated earlier, Melaye’s reputation is not squeaky clean. However, why is everybody ignoring Mrs. Tinubu’s error of judgment on this issue? If indeed she called Dino Melaye a thug and a dog, why use such annoying words? Why didn’t she ignore Melaye and present her arguments without returning abuse for abuse? How many of those who lambasted Melayewould remain calm or “turn the other cheek” if they were called a dog and a thug especially in the presence of other people? Let us not shy away from the truth by pretending that Mrs. Tinubu is blameless on this issue – she is certainly not. As a woman who wants to project the image of quiet feminine dignity and strength, she ought to have ignored Melaye and made her presentation without insulting him in the process. After all, as my people, the Igbo would say, if a naked mad man runs away with the clothes of a woman bathing in the stream and she chases after the madman, both would be considered mad. Clearly, there is an ego problem here, or more precisely, the inability to transcend the intoxicating but transient audacity of political power and wealth. In my opinion, Mrs. Tinubu considers herself politically more powerful and connected than Melaye. She is the spouse of one of the strongest pillars of the ruling party in comparison to whom Melaye is a political toddler. Consequently, Mrs. Tinubu expects the latter to defer to her. On his own part, Melaye believes he can stand on his own, that he is beyond the political gravitational pull of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as agodfather. That was why, at a press briefing to present his own side of the story he stated, “I told her that we were not in Bourdillon, and that she should look at my face, that I am not one of those senators who come to prostrate to them at Bourdillon…” Dino Melaye, Mrs. Tinubu and other politicians basking in the euphoria of power and wealth now should remember that everything in this world, most especially power and wealth, is transient and that verbally abusing one another is not useful in any way. People should learn to treat each other with dignity and respect, knowing full well that we all need one another working together as comrades to lift Nigeria out of the black hole of underdevelopment. That said, the quarrel between Dino Melaye and Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu is an insignificant event, which has been exaggerated in the media. Political hirelings and sycophants who made a mountain out of a molehill on this issue by heaping insults on Melaye, claiming that Melaye’sbehaviour was an attack on womanhood and banning him from visiting any part of the country are probably idle or just doing something to please Bola Tinubu and his wife. Millions of Nigerians, particularly women, working extra hard to eke out a living in these austere times are preoccupied with the more important tasks of feeding their families, paying house rents and school fees of children, and making sure that they survive the hardships exacerbated by the lacklustre government of President Muhammadu Buhari. Conflicts, quarrels, heated disagreements are ontological. Hence, although there will always be disagreement and conflict, a wise person will endeavour to minimise it because an unnecessary or trivial conflict can degenerate into something much more destructive and prevent people from working together to develop the society. To be continued. Read more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/07/sexuality-hypocrisy-everything-1/

IJAW LEADERS TO MILITANTS Don’t declare Republic of N-Delta

By Emma Amaize ELDERS and Leaders of Thoughts of Ijaw ethnic nationality in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria, weekend, warned Ijaw militants against their vow to declare a Republic of Niger-Delta, saying that what Ijaw nation wants is true federalism. Ijaw leaders at a consultative meeting in Warri, Delta State, hosted by Ijaw national leader, Chief Edwin Clark, said: “The Elders and Leaders of Thought of the Ijaw nation call for the immediate restructuring of the Nigerian nation along the lines of peaceful federalism, and noticed that this is the panacea for the sustainable development of Nigeria.” Bayelsa state governor, Hon Henry Seriake Dickson, Deputy Governor of Delta state, Mr. Kingsley Otuaro, former Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Sir Gabriel Toby, former Minister of Culture, Alabo Tonye Graham-Douglas and ex-Minister of Police Affairs, Alaowei Brodrick Bozimo attended the meeting. Also at the meeting were former national chairman of the Traditional Rulers of Oil Mineral Producing Communities of Nigeria, HRM Pere Charles Ayemi-Botu, Mbene III, Ama-Okosu of Ogbe-Ijoh kingdom, Alabo Tobin-West; Chief Boma Obuoforibo, INC National Chairman, and Sir NGO Martins Martyns-Yellowe, Chairman Civil Service Commission On the current dialogue with militants and stakeholders in the region, they stated in a communiqué, “As a demonstration of sincerity of commitment to dialogue, Federal government should immediately withdraw the military from all occupied Ijaw communities, particularly Gbaramatu kingdom.” Non inclusiveness of current FG The leaders also noted the “non-inclusion policies of the present administration, which has led to the alienation of some components of the federation, particularly the Ijaw nation from the main stream of national development” and called on Mr. President to “redress this ugly state of affairs.” Furthermore, they said the prevailing trend of executive/legislature face off was negatively affecting governance and enjoined both arms to work in harmony in the interest of the nation. The meeting noted the impact of various activities of militant groups of the Niger Delta on the national economy and ordered them to cease further attacks on crude oil and gas facilities and embrace the offer of dialogue offered by the federal government. They also called on the FG to release the 10 innocent students of Gbaramatu kingdom. “The meeting passed a vote of confidence on the Chief Boma Obuoforibo-led leadership of the Ijaw National Congress. We condemn the move to scrap the Nigerian Maritime University approved by the preceding Federal Government with temporary site at Kurutie and call for the immediate takeoff of the university,” the leaders said in the communiqué. Chief Clark, however, noted in his opening remarks that any planned or ongoing dialogue between the federal government and militants amounts to a nullity without the involvement of Ijaw leaders. He emphasized before the leaders went into a closed-door session that they converged to reach a common ground on the renewed militancy and its impact on the Niger Delta and Nigeria. “This is not the first time this kind of crisis is happening. In 2008 and 20o9, similar incident happened and Gbaramatu was affected, elders, leaders intervened and we got Amnesty. “Today we hear that federal government is planning, already talking or negotiating with militants and nobody has consulted us. That will not work. These children are our children and we cannot fold our hands when they attack them and pretend not to notice. We must be involved in what government wants to do,” he said. I am vindicated – Gov Dickson In his remark on the occasion, Governor Dickson felt vindicated on the stance of the Ijaw leaders in tandem with his earlier position on the current situation in the Niger Delta and state of the Nigerian nation. “I have said there is no need for more wars in the Niger Delta, certainly not in Ijaw land as the matter is not for war-war but jaw-jaw. I am delighted that our leaders are thinking in that same direction. This meeting is like a prelude to a larger, more comprehensive Ijaw meeting of all our leaders that the government of Bayelsa state would host in no distant time. Source:vanguardngr.com

Nigerians will watch Rio Olympics live- Awogu, SuperSport GM

With the Rio Olympics just around the corner, Nigerians, like the rest of the world, are expected to follow the games keenly and pray that their team brings laurels home. The General Manager, SuperSport, Felix Awogu, says the broadcaster will bring the games live to homes across the country. The Rio Olympics is just few weeks away. Nigerians/Africans will like to know the role SuperSport will play in the games.
In keeping with tradition, it is to deliver the best quality content. We are covering virtually everything and we have a couple of dedicated channels, which will be beaming those events live to our audience. The beautiful thing about us is that we are also going ahead with technology because of the timing, which is probably not very convenient with most people. We have the catch up facility, which MultiChoice has provided and customers can always catch up when they wake up in the morning especially to watch the performance of the Nigerian team. I heard the minister saying that Nigeria is expecting four gold medals. Awogu Awogu To me, that will be a great record. I have a feeling we will not come back empty handed like we did in London. Some of our wrestlers are doing brilliantly well. The lifters always have ways of springing surprises. Blessing Okagbare, I hope will also be able to do us proud. We will be paying special focus on the football team because Nigeria is technically a football country and I hope this year’s selected team will do us proud and move ahead from the last qualification in the finals where they won silver, and probably win us gold. It has been a long time since ’96. What are the unique attractions people should watch out for during the Olympics? We are sending a full team who will be covering it. I know a lot of people have been wondering how we will manage with the Zika scare and it is a major constraint. Even though some athletes are pulling out, we just need to prepare ourselves, take preventive measures and go there to do a quality job. I am sure the Brazilian government would do whatever they can to safeguard participating Olympic athletes and visitors to the games, including journalists. We have a team following the Nigerian team, especially the football and athletic teams, just like we do with some of these well established athletes. There will be a couple of magazine shows in place for subscribers apart from the daily highlights. It will be quite innovative. If we look at it critically, Nigeria does not really have that athlete that has that followership that is really medal hopeful. Is DStv not bothered by this? Let me tell you, a lot of people said we failed in London. I am one of those that think we didn’t fail. If you look at the team, most of our athletes finished in the semi-finals. They didn’t win medals but I see a lot of progression, what could happen is transcending from that semi-final finish into the medal zone this year. If you look at ’96, we didn’t expect any medal in football even after losing to Togo here in the last friendly. We still went ahead to win. We are a team, a country that likes to spring surprises. Wrestling is doing pretty well. Two of our wrestlers, the female ones, are actually in the top three in the world so why not give them a chance? Athletics we may have a few issues but I think we should look at relay and if I were the managers of Okagbare, I will tell her to focus on the jumps because that is the area where she has the advantage. Here, we are pushing her into athletics, 100 metres, 200 metres, relay, I hope she doesn’t burn out. Sometimes, you need to sit down and look at your structure and look at where you have comparative advantage and stick to it. Basketball will be part of Nigeria’s team at the Olympics. Back home, DStv has really been part of the promotion of basketball. What were the major challenges you faced in sponsorship of the premier basketball league? First of all, if we were not convinced that there is a future, we will not be part of basketball. It was well articulated and deliberate. I ask a lot of Nigerians if it should only be football, but I think basketball has great potential. Since we began our relationship with NBBF, of which I am a member of the executive board, a lot of our young basketballers have gotten scholarships to American universities. This is a plus. One or two of them have gotten into the NBA. These have become assets to national development. To us, it is a welcome development. Of course, there are issues, there were a few hiccups here and there, in terms of the facilities, which is not the responsibility of the NBBF to provide. It is actually the government’s responsibility to provide facilities for the athletes to participate. The minister has promised that they will look into it. We do what we can; we have helped with the lighting up of the place and a lot of other support apart from finances to the NBBF. I have said you don’t just rely on one sponsor. I have always encouraged sporting clubs to also develop a marketing team, a brand manager who looks at the image of their products. This goes a long way in the marketability of such sporting clubs. In other words, the sponsorship of the basketball league has been a huge success? Well, not in terms of decoder sales. In terms of Corporate Social Investment, we are providing a selfless service to Nigerians, in terms of supporting the athletes. Yes, it has been a huge success. But when you talk about return on investment, I don’t think it has been fantastic but it has a great future. We sometimes invest to our own disadvantage. We spend money in the league, which nobody wanted to associate with and today it is increasingly becoming a big brand and we’re happy because we are contributing to the society. When I go the USA and I see some of our athletes who came out from the Basketball League contributing to their families it is a great one. I think we need to look more into making basketball an entertainment sport, not just a physical activity. This will go a long way in helping it, that’s what the NBA did and that is how it grew. As far as the return on investment is concerned, are there plans to renew sponsorship after 2017 when it elapses? We have already started discussions. We are discussing with the NBBF and if they feel we have done enough and they think we can still remain partners, it is something we can all sit at a table and see how we can add value. But of course, there has been a little touching here, touching there to make it meaningful after five years of sponsoring the league. I think it is time we had a turn around, we will be happy to see a boost. Will you be extending sponsorships to other sports? We have already started. Boxing was dead. Today, boxing is back on the front burner in Nigerian sports. We have done marvelously well. Look at the GOtv Boxing for instance. It’s brought back the spirit of boxing to Nigeria. Kids are beginning to run around. It’s no longer about selling pure water on the streets. They can actually begin to move into other sports and earn some income. It is changing. It is also catching up with the Lagos State governor’s desire to eradicate street hawking. We will gladly entertain and bring them into boxing and make it a great sport. It used to be a huge sport back in the days in Nigeria with people like Hogan Kid Bassey, Dick Tiger, a couple of them that were world champions and if you visit the hall of fame in America, you will see a lot of Nigerians that have done well. Remember, boxing gave us our first Olympic medal. We have decided, when we saw there was no motivation for the sport and people were getting bashed while earning N500, N5,000 which was not even enough to treat their wounds, we put in some money; a lot of money and television coverage and it is beginning to work out well. Some of our boxers are being invited to the US, UK because of their exposure, to fight and to earn some decent money. With the attraction GOtv boxing has brought in, how much has it really reflected on the GOtv brand itself? To be honest, it is delivering. It is about two years old but the impact is so strong that I’m amazed. I didn’t know boxing had strong followership, such loyalty in Nigeria. You can see the stadium is filled up, people pay to come and watch, although most of the gates-takings are actually donated to older fighters who actually need some level of support. It is amazing and I’m really excited about the prospect and the future of boxing in Nigeria. Tell us about one of your CSI initiatives, ‘Let’s play’. What is the goal behind it? First of all, let’s look at the whole principle of ‘Let’s Play’. It is not really about winning all the time, it is about getting the children active again. Research has proven that a lot of children are becoming obese and a lot of parents are spending so much money in the hospitals. We came out with the idea and asked how can we get the children playing again. Schools today is just one structure somewhere and the kids are not playing. We went into partnership with the ministry of sports and state governments to see how we can get these kids running around again and engaging their friends. Football of course is a major catch. You know if you give one child a soccer ball, he doesn’t play alone, he will engage about 20-30 other children. To us, it was a major direction, and in the last two years, we have probably given over 20,000 soccer balls to Nigerian children and 20,000 soccer balls is not for 20,000 kids. We are talking about 2 to 3 million children who are engaged, running around. That’s the whole principle.
