Benue To Employ 16,000 Teachers, Renovates 444 Schools

The Benue State Government has unveiled an implementation strategy to employ 16,000 primary and secondary school teachers to boost development of education in the agrarian state. Governor Samuel Ortom stated this in Makurdi at the weekend during the presentation of the 2016 Budget christened “Budget of trust, confidence and credibility.” He added that out of the 16,000 teachers to be gainfully employed, 10, 000 are to be deployed to the primary school section while 6,000 would be trained in the secondary school system. According to Ortom, one of the pillars of his administration is qualitative education, saying that government will renovate and furnish at least 400 primary and 44 secondary schools across the state. He further stated that provision was made to upgrade the infrastructure of the College of Advanced and Professional Studies (CAPS) and Colleges of Education at Katsina-Ala and Oju towns. The governor noted that the state owned Benue State University which, he said has remained a centre of excellence, would be adequately funded and boosted with qualified staff and students to enhance the state’s human capital.
