2 Secondary School Students Bag Jail Terms In Osun

By JOSHUA DADA For possessing dangerous weapons, 19-year-old, Agboola Afeez and Ife Akinwole aged 17, students of Osogbo Grammar School were yesterday sentenced to three years imprisonment byan Osun State magistrate court sitting in Osogbo.Afeez was sentenced to one year imprisonment on one count of conspiracy and possession of weapons with an optionof cumulative N5,000 fine for each count while Akinwole bagged a year jail term on the count of conspiracy with a cumulative N5,000 option of fine.The police prosecutor, Sergeant Rasak Olayiwola told the court that the convicts committed offences contrary to Sections 516, 80, 508, and 417 (d) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Vol. II, Laws of Osun State ofNigeria, 2003.The duo had pleaded not guilty to the counts slammed against them when arraigned.The police prosecutor told the court duringthe hearing of the case that the students committed the offence on February 3, 2014at about 12 noon at Nigeria Police Headquarters gate, Oke Fia, Osogbo.The prosecution had arraigned the convicts alongside other students of the school namely; Ajao Adeniyi (18), Lawal Rilwan (20), and Adesoye Afeez (18) on four counts bothering on conspiracy and unlawful possession of the weapons with intent to unleash terror on the students of a neighbouring school- Osogbo Technical College, Oke-Fia.The defence counsel, Mr. Taiwo Awokunle had prayed the court to temper justice withmercy in sentencing the accused saying that the accused persons have realised the enormity of their crimes.Magistrate Aluko however sentenced Afeez to one year imprisonment each on counts of conspiracy and possession of weapons with an option of cumulative N5,000 fine for each.While Akinwole bagged a year jail term on the count of conspiracy with a cumulative N5,000 option of fine.
