Court transfers N35m, foreign currencies found in Justice Ngwuta’s house to CBN

By Ikechukwu Nnochiri
ABUJA – The Federal High Court in Abuja, on Thursday, admitted into evidence, a cash sum of N35million and various foreign currencies that the Department of State Service, DSS, allegedly recovered from the official residence of Justice Sylvester Ngwuta of the Supreme Court.

The Federal Government tendered the recovered monies which it brought to court in nine in Ghana-must-go bags, through a DSS operative, John Otaze. Otaze was a member of an investigative team that raided Justice Ngwuta\’s home on October 8, 2016, in what the DSS termed a \’sting operation\’. He appeared before the trial court to testify as the fifth prosecution witness, PW-5. Led in evidence by government lawyer, Mrs. Olufemi Fatunde, the PW-5, tendered the monies which were in nine bags and boxes. Specifically, aside the cash sum of N35million, the foreign currencies the court admitted into evidence were £35, 0915 (Pound Sterling), $319,096 (United States Dollars), R50 (South Africa Rand), €280 Euros, 380 United Arab Emirates Dirhams and 420 Gambian Dalasis. While Justice Tsoho admitted and marked the boxes as exhibits 11 A-I, the monies were admitted as exhibit-12. Meantime, shortly after the monies were admitted into evidence, the prosecution counsel, Mrs. Fatunde applied that they should be returned to the DSS for onward transfer to the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, for safe keeping, pending conclusion of the trial. The application was not opposed by Ngwuta\’s lawyer, Chief Kanu Agabi, SAN. While granting the request, Justice Tsoho ordered that the monies should be recounted in the presence of counsel from the prosecution, the defence and an officer of the high court. The Judge directed that afterwards, it should be deposited to the CBN by the Deputy Chief Registrar of the court in charge of litigation. It will be recalled that the Ngwuta\’s trial was stalled at the last adjourned date owing to failure by FG to produce some exhibits it wanted to tender before the court. On that day, Justice Ngwuta who is facing an amended 13-count criminal charges, told the court that he was ready and anxious to defend himself, insisting that he was innocent. Ngwuta said the level he had attained in the judiciary made it imperative for him to establish his innocence on the merit of his defence. Aside money laundering charge, FG also alleged that Justice Ngwuta falsified his age, as well as possessed multiple international passports. The embattled jurist was docked before the high court on November 21, 2016, and subsequently granted bail to the tune of N100million. FG told the court that shortly after Ngwuta was granted administrative bail by the DSS, he quickly called the PW-1, Mr. Linus Nwamba to help him conceal some of the evidence against him, including N27million he hid in his bathroom at Abakaliki in Ebonyi State. The prosecution told the court that the defendant equally removed three exotic cars from his residence in his home town. It told the court that the witness, Nwamba, initially hid the bag that contained the N27m cash at the residence of one Abraham Ezeani in Abakaliki, saying the Money \’was subsequently dissipate by Mr Nwamba on the direct instructions of the defendant/applicant\’. It listed the three exotic cars that Ngwuta allegedly attempted to conceal, as a Hummer Jeep Sports Utility Vehicle, Wrangler Jeep Sports Utility Vehicle and a BMW 5 Series Sedan Vehicle which it said was quickly moved by the defendant to Clevero Hotel in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State. FG said the properties which it maintained were derived from the proceeds of an unlawful act, were all subsequently recovered by investigators on November 11, following Nwamba\’s arrest, weeks after the defendant had been released on administrative bail. FG said the DSS, at the end of the search operation conducted at Ngwuta\’s official residence, recovered several sums of cash, including the sum of Thirty-Five Million, Three Hundred and Fifty-Eight Thousand Naira (NGN35,358,000.00); Three Hundred and Nineteen Thousand, Five Hundred and Ninety- Six United States Dollars ($319,596.00). As well as Twenty-Five Thousand Nine Hundred and Fifteen Pounds Sterling (GBP 25,915) and Two Hundred and Eighty Euros (EURO 280.00). It said the search also revealed about four Diplomatic passports, one official and two standard Nigerian passports all in the name of the defendant.

Cyber Attack Hits Around 100 Countries, More Than 75,000 Computers Hacked!

A large-scale cyber attack is confirmed on approximately 75,000 computer devices of around 100 countries on May 12, 2017. According to the media reports, the most probable reason is the security flaw found in Microsoft Windows OS, which allowed hackers to jump into the network.
Earlier it was reported that the attack was done at the institutional level only, but the hack gradually moved to many hospitals in England under National Health Service (NHS), FedEx and even Telefonica, a Spanish Telecom giant.
It is said that the hack is performed via WanaCrypt0r 2.0 - an encryption-based ransomware that encrypts the system files and keeps it unless money is paid to the source person. Though the creators of WanaCypt0r and WannaCry, a decryptor software are also surprised with the global reach on a massive scale.
Russia seems to be the most affected country followed by England, India, Ukraine.
Around 16 hospitals under NHS are hacked.

Ransomware hack is performed via phishing links through email or even by targeting the loopholes in Windows OS.
According to the TechCrunch, the ransomware's code makes it pretty clear that it's taking advantage of an exploit called EternalBlue published in April by the Shadow Brokers but patched preemptively by Microsoft in March.

Will Microsoft take a solid step to overcome such attacks in future?

Stop holding those farts in. Here are 7 unexpected health benefits of passing gas

If you’ve ever shamed yourself or have been shamed by someone else for passing wind, just tell them you’re being healthy.

Farting isn’t the most glamorous way to improve or assess our health, but it is indicative of a healthy, well-functioning digestive system and balanced level of gut bacteria.
According to thefartfacts.com,
  • 9% nitrogen
  • 21% hydrogen
  • 9% carbon dioxide
  • 7% methane
  • 4% oxygen
  • 1% hydrogen sulfide (this is what makes it smell)
Medical Daily suggests people flatulate between five and 10 times a day, though thefartfacts.com has that number at 14. Most of our farts occur while we sleep. Foods that are known to cause flatulence are high in carbohydrates like including beans, artichokes, dairy products, sweet potatoes, oats, nuts, soy, and wheat.
You’d have to eat only refined sugars if you wanted to stop farting, and that isn’t healthy for anyone.
Despite what society tell us, women fart just as much as men. In fact, thefartfacts.com says women had more concentrated and odorous farts in a study where men and women who ate the same type and quantity of food.
Regardless of why or how many times we fart, here are some reasons it is good for us.

Bloat Reduction

Bloating is caused by a build-up of gas in your gut which farting releases. If your pants are feeling a little tight, consider cracking a rat.

It Helps to Balance Your Diet

Passing wind can help you to determine whether or not your diet is balanced since your body will react to different foods in a different manner. So, if you’re eating a lot of red meat, your farts will stink more. If you eat a lot of carbs, you’ll fart more but they’ll have a more neutral odor.

Reduce Abdominal Pain

Holding your gas can cause abdominal pain, also known as intestinal distension. So, letting your gas go will help relieve this pain. If you can let your farts fly, you can gently massage your belly to help the gas flow through your digestive system.

Colon Health

Holding in gas or trying to manipulate the way it is released can harm your colon and inflame your hemorrhoids. Those who have problems with their colon are told not to keep their farts in. So, it’s best to just pass gas naturally when you need to.

Smelling Your Farts is Healthy

Though no one will admit it, everyone likes the smell of their own farts. Other people’s… not so much.
Maybe this is because we instinctually know that it’s good for us. This is because the hydrogen sulfide produced in our intestines during digestion may prevent mitochondrial damage to our cells. This prevents strokes, heart disease, and arthritis.

Determine Food Allergies

Flatulence can determine whether or not we have certain food allergies like lactose intolerance and Coeliac Disease. This is because you will pass a lot of extra gas after consuming them.
If this occurs and you suspect you might have an allergy, you should see your doctor.

It’s Pleasurable

Farting feels fantastic. If that’s not a good enough reason to pass wind… I don’t know what is. Besides, trying to hold it in can make us cranky and no one needs another reason to be cranky.
If you’re still ashamed of how much gas you pass, you can try the following:
  • make sure you don’t have any conditions that require medical attention
  • eat slowly
  • avoid carbonated drinks and artificial sweeteners
  • get more exercise
Otherwise, just get more comfortable with being a human being. After all, having a healthy digestive system is something to be thankful for.
Please SHARE this with your friends and family.

In February 1962, Marley recorded four songs, "Judge Not", "One Cup of Coffee", "Do You Still Love Me?" and "Terror", at Federal Studio for local music producer Leslie Kong. Three of the songs were released on Beverley's with "One Cup of Coffee" being released under the pseudonym Bobby Martell.
In 1963, Bob Marley, Bunny Wailer, Peter Tosh, Junior Braithwaite, Beverley Kelso, and Cherry Smith were called the Teenagers. They later changed the name to the Wailing Rudeboys, then to the Wailing Wailers, at which point they were discovered by record producer Coxsone Dodd, and finally to the Wailers. Their single "Simmer Down" for the Coxsone label became a Jamaican #1 in February 1964 selling an estimated 70,000 copies. The Wailers, now regularly recording for Studio One, found themselves working with established Jamaican musicians such as Ernest Ranglin (arranger "It Hurts To Be Alone"), the keyboardist Jackie Mittoo and saxophonist Roland Alphonso. By 1966, Braithwaite, Kelso, and Smith had left the Wailers, leaving the core trio of Bob Marley, Bunny Wailer, and Peter Tosh.
In 1966, Marley married Rita Anderson, and moved near his mother's residence in Wilmington, Delaware in the United States for a short time, during which he worked as a DuPont lab assistant and on the assembly line at a Chrysler plant, under the alias Donald Marley.
Though raised as a Catholic, Marley became interested in Rastafari beliefs in the 1960s, when away from his mother's influence. After returning to Jamaica, Marley formally converted to Rastafari and began to grow dreadlocks. The Rastafari proscription against cutting hair is based on the biblical Samson, who as a Nazirite, was expected to make certain religious vows, including the ritual treatment of his hair as described in Chapter Six of the Book of Numbers: "All the days of the vow of his separation there shall no razor come upon his head: until the days be fulfilled, in the which he separateth himself unto the Lord, he shall be holy, and shall let the locks of the hair of his head grow."(Numbers 6: 5 KJV)
After a financial disagreement with Dodd, Marley and his band teamed up with Lee "Scratch" Perry and his studio band, the Upsetters. Although the alliance lasted less than a year, they recorded what many consider the Wailers' finest work. Marley and Perry split after a dispute regarding the assignment of recording rights, but they would remain friends and work together again.
1969 brought another change to Jamaican popular music in which the beat slowed down even further. The new beat was a slow, steady, ticking rhythm that was first heard on the Maytals song "Do the Reggay." Marley approached producer Leslie Kong, who was regarded as one of the major developers of the reggae sound. For the recordings, Kong combined the Wailers with his studio musicians called Beverley's All-Stars, which consisted of the bassists Lloyd Parks and Jackie Jackson, the drummer Paul Douglas, the keyboard players Gladstone Anderson and Winston Wright, and the guitarists Rad Bryan, Lynn Taitt, and Hux Brown. As David Moskowitz writes, "The tracks recorded in this session illustrated the Wailers’ earliest efforts in the new reggae style. Gone are the ska trumpets and saxophones of the earlier songs, with instrumental breaks now being played by the electric guitar." The songs recorded would be released as the album The Best of The Wailers, including tracks "Soul Shakedown Party," "Stop That Train," "Caution," "Go Tell It on the Mountain," "Soon Come," "Can’t You See," "Soul Captives," "Cheer Up," "Back Out," and "Do It Twice".

Between 1968 and 1972, Bob and Rita Marley, Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer re-cut some old tracks with JAD Records in Kingston and London in an attempt to commercialise the Wailers' sound. Bunny later asserted that these songs "should never be released on an album ... they were just demos for record companies to listen to". In 1968, Bob and Rita visited songwriter Jimmy Norman at his apartment in the Bronx. Norman had written the extended lyrics for Kai Winding's "Time Is on My Side" (covered by the Rolling Stones)
and had also written for Johnny Nash and Jimi Hendrix. A three-day jam session with Norman and others, including Norman's co-writer Al Pyfrom, resulted in a 24-minute tape of Marley performing several of his own and Norman-Pyfrom's compositions. This tape is, according to Reggae archivist Roger Steffens, rare in that it was influenced by pop rather than reggae, as part of an effort to break Marley into the American charts. According to an article in The New York Times, Marley experimented on the tape with different sounds, adopting a doo-wop style on "Stay With Me" and "the slow love song style of 1960's artists" on "Splish for My Splash". An artist yet to establish himself outside his native Jamaica, Marley lived in Ridgmount Gardens, Bloomsbury, during 1972.

12 things a girl does when she likes you already – If you notice #10, you got her bro!

#1 You catch her staring at you often: Does she steal glances at you now and then? And every time you look at her, does she blush and look away? If a girl can’t stop staring at you, especially when you’re busy or occupied with something else, it’s a good sign to show that she has something romantic in mind when it comes to your thoughts.

#2 You bump into her often And somehow, she doesn’t seem surprised to see you: If you don’t know this girl or haven’t been introduced to her, and you still see her out of the blue in places where you like hanging out, she may want to catch your eye.

#3 Her friends seem excited. She seems nervous:  One of the easiest ways to find out if a girl likes you is by watching her behavior when she’s with her friends. Do you see her friends nudging her while she blushes and discreetly looks at you now and then? Well, if her friends stare hard at you and laugh, and if she coyly catches your eye, there’s definitely a crush in the air.
#4 She thinks you’re a great guy: When you have a conversation with this girl, does she constantly remind you about how sweet a guy you are? Being labeled a sweet guy isn’t always a compliment. But if she ever does say any girl would be lucky to have you, then that surely is a compliment!

#5 She looks for excuses to touch you: Some girls are just touchy feely all the time. But almost all the girls aren’t. Does a girl look for excuses to touch you or hold your hand? If you notice this behavior of hers only around you and not any other guy, she probably does have feelings for you.

#6 She compliments you a lot: Does this girl treat you preferentially? Does she favor you or take your side all the time? There’s a good chance that a girl likes you if she favors you and compliments you for the smallest of reasons, all the time.
#7 She talks about your exes and girlfriend: When a girl likes a guy, she’d want to know everything about his relationship status and his past relationships. It’s an easy way to get to know more about the kind of girls you like and are attracted to, and also the relationship issues that matter to you.
#8 She talks about your plans: If a girl likes you, she’d want to be a part of your life beyond work or college hours. Friends do casually ask each other what they’re up to over the weekend, but if a girl wants to date you, she’d try to look for similar activities often, so she can join you.
#9 She gives you all her attention: We’re all busy in our own lives. But if a girl likes you a lot, she’ll push everything else aside so she can spend more time with you. Does she spend time talking to you for a long while even if she’s busy, be it in hallways or over phone?
#10 She asks you out:  If a girl likes you but is too shy to ask you out on a date , she may try to look for subtler ways to date you or ask you out. Does she ask you about your weekend plans or if you’d be interested in a show or a game for which she has tickets? If she always picks you as the first option to ask out, there’s definitely more than just friendship on her mind.
#11 She flaunts her single status:  Does this friend of yours make it very clear to you that she’s single and ready to date someone? If she constantly reminds you that she’s looking for a good guy to date, or asks you to go clubbing with her because she’s got no date, she may indeed like you

#12 She gets jealous when you ignore her: Does this girl get annoyed when you talk a lot to some other girl? Does she pass a snide remark or pull your leg saying you’re attracted to the other girl just because you had a friendly conversation with that girl? She may be jealous on the inside. And when you ignore this girl completely and have a touchy flirty conversation with another attractive girl, does she avoid you completely or get rude all of a sudden? Sometimes, romantic jealousy is the best sign of romance.

Government urges everyone to check their gardens for tiny eggs before they prune. Here’s why

Spring is here, and that means your garden is in full bloom. You are probably excited to start trimming your plants and changing the layout of your garden, but beware – you could be endangering unexpected inhabitants!

We all love hummingbirds for their beauty, unique design, and the stunning way they fly. Despite your adoration of these beautiful birds, you might be less familiar with how they nest and what you can do to protect their homes from being destroyed. Luckily, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is here to help.

USFWS is concerned with protecting the ecology of our country. This spring they have sent out an announcement to all nature lovers: “Hummingbird eggs are tiny, about the size of jelly beans! Please remember to carefully check for nests before you trim trees and shrubs this spring.” Sounds simple enough.

If you’ve never seen a hummingbird nest, you are in for a treat. These beautiful bundles of forestry are almost a work of art, and they weigh less than one-tenth of an ounce! Now you understand why you have to actively look for them – they are tiny and easy to miss. These delicate nests are made out of spider webs, moss, and leaves. The female hummingbird likes to design them with bits of lichen to camouflage them from prying eyes. This is an effective tool for hiding from predators, but it also hides the hummingbird’s home from well-meaning humans who might unknowingly hurt them. These tiny marvels look like something out of a fairytale.

How do you know if a hummingbird family is setting up camp near you? They live all over the Americas, so you are likely to stumble across one just about anywhere. Hummingbirds are versatile and build their homes wherever they find the right conditions. They love gardens, especially well-maintained human gardens, because of the comfort these designed spaces offer. Hummingbirds are drawn in with bright, nectar-rich flowers, hummingbird feeders, and bird baths. If you see these fluttering friends, they are probably building a nest somewhere near you.

Hummingbirds are part of the amazing nature found on this planet. They are harmless to humans and bring birdwatchers endless joy. Remember to be mindful of hummingbird nests as you garden this spring. It is all of our responsibility to protect the lovely life in our local ecosystem.
Please SHARE this with your friends and family.

China sentences 19 govt officials to 20 years in jail over landslide

China sentences 19 govt officials to 20 years in jail over landslide

Chinese courts have sentenced 19 government officials and one business leader to prison for up to 20 years for their roles in a landslide which killed more than 70 people.
The disaster occurred in Shenzhen, a southern boom town bordering Hong Kong, at the end of 2015 when soil illegally piled some 160 metres (500 feet) high at an old quarry site turned to mud during heavy rains.
Three local courts passed sentences at the end of April for 45 people who had been charged in connection with the landslide, China’s official news agency Xinhua reported late Friday.
Long Renfu, the boss of Shenzhen Yixianglong, which was responsible for managing the site, was sentenced to 20 years in prison and a fine of 10 million yuan ($1.5 million) for negligence and corruption.

The former head of Shenzhen’s city administration bureau was also sentenced to 20 years imprisonment and fined eight million yuan, while an official from Guangming district where the landslide took place was sentenced to 16 years for taking bribes.
Seventeen other government officials were given prison sentences between three and seven years, while five others received other penalties, the news agency reported.
The incident highlighted the poor industrial safety record in China, where regulations are often loosely enforced by inspectors and sometimes corrupt local authorities.
In August 2015, just months before the Shenzhen disaster, illegally stocked chemical products caused huge explosions in the northern port of Tianjin, killing at least 165 people.

Love Conquers: Man Breaks 300-year Curse, Marries His Lover from Another Village

Love Conquers: Man Breaks 300-year Curse, Marries His Lover from Another Village

By Thandiubani - tori.ng

Love has finally united two warring villages in China after two different people from each of the village fell in love and insisted they must marry to overcome their adversity.
A Chinese man has broken a 300-year jinx to marry his lover from a nearby Chinese village. The two lovers separated by a stream little more than a metre wide had to overcome the obstacle between the two eastern Chinese villages who are against one another for over three centuries now.

But love brought the adversaries together.

According to a report by AFP, Wushan and Yuepu in Fujian province, which count between them some 7,500 inhabitants, used to observe an unusual tradition whereby people who lived on one side of the river were forbidden from marrying those from the other.

"Nobody can remember where this ban on marriages came from, we only know that we fought each other around 300 years ago for the right to use the water," Wang Hongdong, Communist Party secretary for Wushan told AFP on Friday.

The confrontation led to a curse, which said that marriage with a person from the rival village would lead only to misfortune. The rivalry was passed from generation to generation.

"They fought again about 40 years ago, over graves," Wang said.

"Then relations started to settle, especially over the last 10 years. We started to build a shoe factory together and the young people were getting on well."

But villagers remained forbidden from marrying their rivals until a young girl from Yuepu fell in love with a boy from Wushan, around three years ago.

"The families were dead against the marriage on account of the curse," Wang said. "They really believed in it".

The young couple married anyway but were forced to leave Fujian and move to another province, some 1,500 km (900 miles) from their home.

In 2015 they returned to the villages to celebrate their marriage in the young man's house, but the parents of the bride refused to attend.

But when the woman later gave birth to two beautiful boys, the inhabitants of both villages stopped believing in the curse, Mr Wang said.

To mark the reconciliation and officially abolish the ban on marriages, the two villages this week organised a ceremony in the presence of local Buddhist and Communist authorities. Some 500 people attended.
