Obaseki hosts workers to dinner, promises open door policy

BENIN—GOVERNOR Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has assured workers in the state of an open policy and sued for their trust and acceptance. The governor also said that his administration’s zero tolerance for waste in the civil service has boosted the state Internally Generated Revenue, IGR, by 500 per cent.

 The governor who hosted the two unions, the Nigeria Labour congress, NLC and Trade Union Congress, TUC, to a dinner party to felicitate with them on Workers Day celebration, said “Nothing good thrives in a community where there is no trust, you have given me your trust and I will not betray that trust. “Today marks a new dawn, I want to be able to look back and say while I was a governor, I never had an incident of strike. As long as you trust me, I will place every issue before you for dialogue.” Governor of Edo State, Mr Godwin Obaseki Obaseki assured the workers that the hosting of the Workers day Dinner will be on yearly basis.

The governor also used the platform to clear the air that his administration had not banned the Nigerian Union of Road Transport Workers from collecting dues and levies from its members in the state. He said that sequel to the ban of collection of taxes and levies by non government agents, the current administration had adopted electronic payment as a new means of revenue collection in the state. In their remarks, the Edo chairmen of the NLC and TUC, Emmanuel Ademokun and Marshall Orhue commended Obaseki for hosting the unions’ members to a dinner after participating in the May Day celebration The duo said that the dinner showed that the governor was worker’s friendly. They added that the labour unions working with the state government would build a stronger Edo State. He explained that the technology is being test- run and the union will start collecting levies from its members via electronic payment before the end of May. He commended the labour unions for the presentation of awards to outstanding personalities who he said had contributed immensely to the development of the state.

The duo said that the dinner showed that the governor was worker’s friendly. They added that the labour unions working with the state government would build a stronger Edo State.
